Budget Update
BB presented the paper showing a balanced budget for the year. Next financial year SACRE will again receive £15,000 as their budget, due to the commitment with RE Today. The following year the budget will be reduced to £7,500.
There will be pressures next financial year keeping within the £15,000 budget with the delivery of ongoing training for the Agreed Syllabus and preparing for the reduction in budget for the following year.
Work is being undertaken for a Special Schools’ network and also work is to be done around Collective Worship. The pupil conference will not materialise as there are no funds available. In order to meet the budget needs the allocation of days for special advisors and network leads are being reviewed.
Cllrs Galley and Belsey will take the matter of the SACRE budget up with colleagues to see if an increased budget can be agreed. ACTION: Cllr Galley and Cllr Belsey

Update on Network meetings
Secondary The secondary hub held on 8 February was hosted by Dr Kate Christopher. Sam Keddie has been working with Kate on a project on World Views, teaching Islam as a World View rather than a world religion approach. Positive feedback was received from the attendees.
The next meeting of the secondary hub is being held on 15 March led by Stephen Pett. The attendance numbers may be impacted as this date coincides with the Teachers’ strike. This session will be on the Syllabus and Hinduism.
There is to be a whole day teacher conference on 12 July (in person) led by Stephen Pett and funded by RE Today as part of the package we are committed to. This is being hosted at Chailey School.
Cullum St Gabriel are offering on-line free courses on CPD; a flyer has been circulated to the SACRE group.
Primary On 25 January the second funded twilight was held with Stephen Pett. There will be a final twilight session in the summer term to build on this.
Pamela Hartog presented a session on Judaism which was very well received. This session raised lots of interest on a visit to the Synagogue, which Claire is in the process of arranging.
Dates to note: 27 April: Lat Blaylock will be leading on a Primary Conference. 4 May: CRa and CRi visit to Willingdon Primary to observe Lois Burton SLE 8 June: Next network meeting with Katie Harrison on Collective Worship. 27 June: Dr Kate Christopher to join the network meeting on Islam/World Views.
Determinations Policy As a response to SACRE BB has produced this Policy based on the NASACRE template. BB will finalise the presentation of the document and this will be added to the new SACRE page on the Czone website.
Special Schools BB presented a paper on the implementation of the new Agreed Syllabus in Special Schools which gave an update on the current status of the use of the syllabus within these schools. It was agreed that the local Agreed Syllabus is delivered as far as is practicable.
SACRE agreed to further facilitate the work of Kirsty Eydmann through recognition of an informal Special Schools network and to use the network to develop a simplified version of the programme of study alongside a bank of resources that Special Schools may draw on.
SACRE agreed to consider the specific training needs of teachers in Special Schools and the extent to which SACRE might be able to support their development. |
